We are incredibly proud to announce Josh Ozuna as the tenth recipient of our annual ALKU Scholarship in collaboration with Mass Mentoring Partnership! Josh is a Hyde Park resident, a rising senior of Boston Community Leadership Academy, and a member of Young Man with a Plan, a Hyde Park-based mentoring program for Black and Latinx youth. As a dedicated student, with a 4.11 GPA in challenging AP courses, and a resilient student who began working at the age of 13 to support his family after his mother’s passing, Josh has worked tirelessly to achieve his goals. Now, with his sights set on college, Josh looks forward to what the future has in store.
“I’ve had the honor of sitting on the ALKU Scholarship Board for two years now and have had the opportunity to review applications from so many deserving young people. After hearing Josh’s story and the goals he has set for himself, there was no doubt in my mind that he had what it takes to be our scholarship recipient,” said Community Engagement Coordinator, Elvis Bisono. “From the moment we met, it was clear that we made the right choice. The challenges he has faced and overcame at such a young age have given him the confidence and composure to make him stand out as someone with a clear vision of what they want. He is someone who will do whatever it takes to get there; not only for himself, but for his family. Josh has an extremely bright future ahead of him, and I can’t wait to see how far he will go!”
Josh marks the tenth recipient to be awarded the ALKU Scholarship as part of our ongoing partnership with Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP). The award will be distributed over the course of four years along with ongoing mentorship and support from MMP to support Josh’s success throughout his college career. Congratulations, Josh!
